Wear Red on Fridays!
As part of an intercontinental movement to support troops, Manhattanville My Soldier today announced it will join thousands of Americans and Canadians in celebrating Wear Red on Fridays by offering participants a free, red ‘My Soldier’ awareness bracelet.
Red Fridays Foundation of Canada created Wear Red Fridays as a nonpartisan program to show deployed troops that they are cared for and honored. The My Soldier bracelet initiative is reminiscent of the POW/MIA bracelet program that was launched on Veteran's Day, 1970. That campaign was the brainchild of two college students in Los Angeles, who were looking for ways young people, could support soldiers overseas without becoming involved in the controversy surrounding the war.
“For some young people, the POW bracelets represented a political awakening,” said Richard Berman, Manhattanville College President who was a college student at the University of Michigan during the Vietnam War. “Wearing the My Soldier bracelet will be a reminder that serviceman are making sacrifices for democracy right now.”
To receive a free ‘My Soldier’ bracelet please send a SASE (self addresses stamped envelope) with two stamps (required for thickness) to:
