What is My Soldier?
Manhattanville's My Soldier is a student/staff-run program that allows the
American public to "adopt" a
deployed United States Armed Serviceperson. Regardless of an individual's political
views and opinion of warfare, our troops need our support. My Soldier
has opened a new portal that puts politics aside to educate, bond, and strengthen
the American community. If you would like to participate,
Is there a cost associated with the program?
An optional ten-dollar donation is
requested from those who are able to give. All
donations are directly applied toward the program's operations
costs. Those who are not able to donate but still would like
to participate are encouraged to send a special request to:
Manhattanville College
My Soldier Department, Attn: Anne Gold
2900 Purchase Street
Purchase, NY 10577
Please include an explanation of your situation as well as a
request for a soldier contact and a starter kit.
Where does My Soldier get its soldier contacts?
Soldiers are able to register themselves for
adoption through our website. Parents of soldiers are also
encouraged to submit their child's name and address.
How does Manhattanville fit into the My Soldier Program?
Because of the divergent takes on the war within the college
student population, the My Soldier program is set up in such
a way that people from both sides of the issue can feel included.
There's a strong social justice and community service focus
at Manhattanville - last year at Manhattanville, our 1,500
students logged over 19,000 community service hours - so it's
a natural extension of the school's mission: '"to educate
ethically and socially responsible leaders for the global
community."
"That's why I came here," states My Soldier co-founder
Sgt. Juan Salas." And this program is definitely part
of my education!"
How do I get a free My Soldier bracelet?
Due to the overwhelming participation numbers, the Starter
Kit is no longer distributed via postal mail and can now be
accessed online. The My Soldier bracelets are free
upon registration, but no longer included in the Starter
Kit. If you would like a My Soldier bracelet, please send
a self-addressed stamped envelope
with 2 stamps (postage required for its thickness) to:
Manhattanville College
My Soldier Department
2900 Purchase Street
Purchase, NY 10577
Can I get extra My Soldier bracelets?
Yes. Call the My Soldier Office (914) 323-5172 to find out how you can get free My Soldier bracelets in bulk to use as summer picnic or parade giveaways.
