Frequently Asked Questions about Community Service for   My Soldier?

How does the My Soldier program make a difference?
Sometimes, soldiers just need a human touch, an ability to know that someone out there really does care and appreciate what they do, regardless of the political controversy engendered by their assignment. By enrolling in the program you can fulfill this need by writing letters and sending care packages to show service members and their families how much Americans value their sacrifice.

Will participation in My Soldier enhance my college application?
Many colleges consider community service an important factor in the admissions process and for scholarship applications. We will supply those students who fulfill the requirements with proof of participation in our program. However, the college admissions decision-making process takes a number of factors into consideration. We suggest that you discuss all community service activities including My Soldier with your guidance counselor to determine if a specific type of activity is a “good fit” for you and your future plans.

Is there an age restriction to participate?
Before registering all minors should obtain permission form a parent/guardian. Participation may raise questions about war, politics, and other difficult subjects.

What form of recognition can I expect to receive?
Students who follow the requirements of service will be provided with proof of service in the form of a letter and certificate.
